Wedding at the Old Hall, Ely by Sam & Louise photography

2017 seems to have been a year of firsts for us. We have been lucky enough to shoot at lots of beautiful venues that are new to us, which is always exciting! Now we have another to add to the list. This time it was for Sarah & Mitchell. For them, we shot our first wedding at the Old Hall, Ely. What a beautiful place it is too!

The Old Hall, Ely. Signs required!

After the sat nav took us to the complete wrong place (why isn’t there a sign!?) we were rescued by the wonderful Richard, of White dress films. Another couple of firsts. A) Being rescued and B) After all these years, finally meeting and working with Richard. (This is why we always leave super early for weddings and we ended up arriving an hour and a half before the bridal party!)

The weather was a little touch and go in the morning as the dark clouds came and went. Ultimately though, they stayed away for long enough to allow Sarah & Mitchell’s outdoor ceremony to go ahead. We are so pleased that they did. For a wedding at the old hall, Ely, it has to be an outdoor ceremony really. You cannot beat those incredible views. And although you’re surrounded by land as far as the eye can see, it still feels intimate.

Wedding day surprises

Sarah and Mitchell had let us know during their engagement shoot just how important it was to them to have a totally relaxed day. They wanted to spend as much time as possible with their guests, enjoying their company. They wanted their loved ones to have an incredible day too and this really showed with all the little touches they’d included. Not only did they have a magician who literally had guests screaming in awe, but they also laid on a big surprise too. Even the couples parents had no idea what was coming!

Just as the speeches came to an end, one of the waiting staff also decided to make an impromptu speech. Except, this was no ordinary waiter. After a series of crowd pleasing jokes and some very confused (read baffled) guests they launched into song and the room came alive. We have worked with singing waiters before, but we’ve never seen a set like this before. You could not keep people in their seats! Between the grinding grandmas and the conga line, there were smiles ear to ear. Tears of laughter and a lot of belly laughs.

This was pretty much the theme for Sarah and Mitchell’s wedding at the Old Hall, Ely. Everyone was so warm and so up for a laugh. No one was afraid to get involved. It was so lovely to have been a part of their day. It was a pleasure to spend time with them getting to know their nearest and dearest. We hope that the photos do justice to what a fun packed day it was and how much we enjoyed being a part of it.
