The best wedding photographs of 2017 seems like a bit of a dramatic title for a post, but for us, these really are. They are some of our absolute favourites from our last year in weddings. 2017 has been our 6th full wedding season working as professional wedding photographers so we feel like we’ve found our groove a little over the last couple of years.

We know that the photos are the best bit, so we’re keen to let them do the talking. If you do want to read a bit more about our year, you can find the wordy stuff after all the photos.

The best wedding photographs of 2017 by Sam & Louise photography

Firstly, of course, we want to extent a huge thank you to all the couples who chose us to document their day . Thank you so much for allowing us to play a small part in your wedding celebration. 7 years in, it’s still mind blowing to us that we’re able to live and breath wedding photography every day. And that’s all because of the incredible couples who book us and trust us to tell their stories. Everything above, is down to you. Thank you.

Our thanks also go to some of the ridiculously talented videographers, make up artists, florists, bands, stationers, crafters, wedding coordinators, DJs, entertainers, hair stylists who’ve been a pleasure to work with. We’ve worked with lots of new faces this year. Lily & May, Edd Crafer, and the fabulous One Curious dream– to name a few. But it was equally lovely to work alongside some familiar faces too! Unique visuals wedding films, Amelies Kitchen, Team Glam, DJ Terry Lewis, Botias, Ride out films. You’ve all been fantastic as per usual!

It’s been a bit of a “keep your heads down” year for us this year. We had a big house move just as wedding season was kicking off in March, all alongside a total house renovation project…. which is still ongoing! We’ve not had a bathroom since July (hello showers at the gym!). As a result most of our free time during spring and summer was spent painting or putting down flooring. Then in September a lorry decided to sideswipe me (Louise) on the way home from a wedding, so those, along with a million other things have kept us very busy behind the scenes! Still, it did give me the chance to try a spider belt again as I can’t use my hold fast style straps anymore. Thanks lorry!

New adventures

It’s not been all doom and gloom though. We’ve had the chance to travel a lot this year, with loads of weddings taking place outside of Essex. We have spent quite a lot of time in Norfolk, working at new venues like Hockering House and The Norfolk Mead. We also spent quite a bit of time in Suffolk, ticking new venues like Bruisyard Hall and Copdock Hall off our list too.

For us, 2017 was mostly the year of: Tipis & Gaynes Park. Not together though. We’ve shot lots of lovely tipi weddings at places like Helmingham Hall, and similarly lots of lovely weddings at Gaynes park too. It was definitely the venue we shot at most this year. In fact, every wedding we shot from mid October onwards took place there!
